Simple complete sentences

Below are some ideas for teaching students to write sentences:


1. Model writing simple sentences for students.

2. Give students a list of words and have them create as many simple sentences as possible using those words.

3. Have students circle all of the nouns in a paragraph and then write a simple sentence using one of those nouns.

4. Give students a list of verbs and have them write a simple sentence for each one.

5. Have students identify the subject and predicate in a sentence and then write their own sentence with the same structure.

6. Have students brainstorm a list of simple sentences about a particular topic.

7. Give students a sentence and have them break it down into its component parts (subject, verb, object, etc.) and then write their own sentence using the same parts.

8. Have students read a paragraph and then write a simple sentence about each sentence in the paragraph.

9. Have students choose a topic and then write 10 simple sentences about that topic.
